Impact of Global Learning
I have had the chance to witness diversity and inclusiveness since I was a little girl. My elementary school (Air Base K-8) focused on preparing students' reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies skills through a strong academic foundation and an international perspective. So experiencing events such as all around the world in grade school cemented my curiosity and appreciation of a diverse world. It may not have been much when I was a little girl, however, it has evolved me to be a culturally competent person. Although, much of my education was focused on global learning and fostering a sense of global citizenship and responsibility; living in Miami also was a contributing factor. Miami is considered a melting pot of a city and I have had the chance to meet and be friends with many people of different backgrounds.

In addition, living in South Florida, I had the chance to attend Florida International University. The name alone of this university speaks for itself. A global perspective is seen through the faculty and student body of the university. In addition, FIU focuses on embedding this global objective in their graduation requirement, which is taking two global learning courses. I took seven global learning classes which allowed me to approach challenges and have a more inclusive mindset. One class, that comes to my mind after taking the course is" How Do We Know What We Know". This class opened a new world of global awareness and the importance of media literacy. This was my first encounter with media literacy and how to be media literate when it comes to news all around the world.

Moreover, during my time at FIU, I also had the chance to be part of a global health club called MED REACH. This club focuses on health equity, professional development, growth, and mobilizing a community of students to work together to maintain knowledge of health worldwide. I had the chance to be part of the eboard as Director of Partnership. I was in charge of organizing and leading the mission trip requirements, training, and workshops alongside the Vice President. Due to MEDREACH being a new club, it did not have a primary philanthropy. I was in charge of finding a primary philanthropy and found Medical Teams International. They send disaster response teams to places in desperate need of medical assistance such as countries like Palestine, Colombia, or Uganda.

Despite all these global experiences I have accumulated at FIU, I am still eager to learn more about cultures and travel to see them in person. As a pre-med student aspiring to be a medical doctor, I hope to give back to the world by aiding countries going through medical crises. I hope to be a future humanitarian using the skills I foster and be part of a team. Overall, with the global learning experiences I have and will soon experience, I have come to appreciate rich cultures and hope to be a well-rounded doctor in the future for my diverse patients.
